Knots or Touching Sound, 2009.  Metal screening and thread

Knots or Touching Sound, 2009, Oakville Galleries , ON

The knot constructs reference the theories the French physicist and mathematician Jules Antoine Lissajou (1822 - 1880) developed. His mathematical equations analyzed sound vibrations resulting in “Lissajou Figures” of great beauty and complexity, often recalling knot configurations. The integration of science, sound and physical, visual forms with aesthetic qualities formed the basis for the sculptural knots. The choice of fur for one of the  series, metal mesh for the second, generated a reading invoking the sense of touch, thus the subtitle “ Touching Sound”.
