I’M Not The Girl Who Misses Much, 1994

The multi-media piece “I’M Not The Girl Who Misses Much” (1986) by the Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist, was acknowledged with great interest.

In my response to this witty work, I have chosen an image from the 50’s, (originally used in the context of a highly visible ad for a cleaning product), a stereotypical portrait of a female figure, which appears in high contrast to the alert, self-aware and assertive pronouncement. Like Rist’s daring and nuanced piece that still prompts intense discussion of gender roles and related issues, my piece, in turn continues this complex questioning through irony, fearlessness, insistence.
